The history of
the mill:

the day before yesterday,

yesterday & today

To get the first definitive information on the origins of this historic building, we have to go back to the early 1500s, when the Salon family from Cividale owned it. We must wait almost three centuries to identify this place as Mulino Miceu, whose name apparently derived from the family of millers who took it over in the late 1700s. At that time, the mill was used to process rice and was located right on the Austro-Venetian border, with its water channel (known as the “Prati” channel) marking the boundary.

The mill continued its activity under various managers until the first half of the 1900s, when it became the centerpiece of a well-known farm owned by the Basaldella family of millers. This is when our long love story with the mill began. In 1964, Grandpa Silvestro became its owner and decided to change its purpose, converting it into a place for breeding trotting horses, his great passion.

Today, the mill wheel is unfortunately gone, but we wanted to give this magical place — so important to our community — a new life, preserving as much as possible of its original architectural features.

Mulino Miceu is now a splendid countryside retreat framed by vast green fields, mostly dedicated to agriculture. It is also a place that part of our family still calls home.

Curiosity

about our name

The mill’s name, now a countryside retreat, comes from the surname of the family who managed it the longest, from 1776 to 1921.
